For The Living

For The Living
is a site-specific performance of a funeral at madL Galley.

By decorating a large window of the gallery as a picture frame with a ribbon of flowers,
River Lin portraits himself as the dead in a funeral and the audience outside as the living.
River emerges from behind flowers, clutching a vase full of pink paint.
He douses his body with the paint and dances  slowly in trance.

This work explores the connection between the dead and the living partaking in a funeral.
The ritual process with the physical presence of the dead makes the connection visible,
posing question as to how the living relate to the dead,
concerning the the meaning of live and death.
